SOCCER TIMELINE
Northern Tigers vs Central Coast Mariners
Born in Australia, of Argentine parents, William began football at the age of 5 playing for his local side. Even at a tender age, William began to excell, picking up various coaches and player of the year awards in his junior years. As a result of this, at the age of 11 he was scouted by the representative side Central Coast FC, identified as a player with great potential and selected to play in the state league. In his first year playing representative football, his coach was able to see the natural leadership that he possessed, and was given the responsibility of captaincy. Such sucess continued, as he led the Central Coast side in the New South Wales State League over 3 years. During this time they were runners up in the under 13's. As a result of this sucess, William was also selected to represent his region, Metropolittan Far North in the week long tournament, the "New South Wales STATE TITLES". This is a highly prestigous competition with the best talent of the entire state of new south wales competiting for the title. Not only did William's side win in a dramatic grand final, but William was selected as player of the tournament. This was a significant year for William and acted as a springboard for his future career in football.
The following year, outside of another successful club year, the representative honours continued. Aged 14, William was then selected in the NEW SOUTH WALES STATE SQUAD, that was selected to compete in the NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS hosted in Coffs Harbour New South Wales (NSW). A hugely eye opening experience followed, with the entire talent of the country being put on show at the one venue, where New South Wales were favoured for the title. New South Wales were bundled out in the semi finals, however this experience was immense for William, who was selected in every starting 11 in the 8 day tournament, and played every minute of the tournament.
William then went back and once again represented his region METROPOLITTAN FAR NORTH at the state titles, where they didnt enjoy the same success, however William performed exceptionally, once again picking up the player of the tournament award, despite his side failing to produce great results.
William was then asked by the coach of the New South Wales team if he would come with him to play for his state league side BANKSTOWN CITY LIONS. This was again another massive year for William as he learnt much about the game under the cultured eye of his German coach (UNDER 15's), his team finishing fourth in the state wide competition.
The following year, William was contacted by a coach at MANLY UNITED FC to come and be a massive part of his push for the NSW state league Title. This was the most successful year for William in his short career so far, as he was an irreplaceable part of the squad, in the side that eventually took out the title coming first on the overall league table.
Such success brought great attention as William was then invited by Sydney FC national youth league coach "STEVE CORICA" (ex-professional A-League player) to train with them throughout their season. As William was still 16 (the age for the A-league national youth league is 17-21), he was not eligible to play for the squad that year. The team however ended up winning the National Youth League title. Great experience was gained in his time with the club.
The following year was of critical learning, as William made the jump from youth football, to SENIOR MENS football. William spent this year in the Northern NSW NBN state league, playing for heavy weights Edgeworth Eagles. William was selected in the reserve grade squad (under 23's), becoming a cemented and well respected central midfielder for the club. William spent large amounts of his time with the club training with the open age first grade squad, regularly making appearances off the bench in the regular league season as a 17 year old, as well as making first grade starts in the various cups competed in.
William again attracted attention from an A-LEAGUE CLUB, as this time the CENTRAL COAST MARINERS came asking William to join in training with their National Youth League squad. Again, this was a great experience for William, as he was able to train with some of the best coaches and players around. This great oppurtunity was cut short by an untimely injury, which put William out for 8 months during a crucial time period for the team, unfortunately in this case eventuating in loss of contact with the club. This injury put him out for the majority of the next season as well, where he didn't play any football.
Last year William made a great return, this time returning to the New South Wales STATE LEAGUE, competing for prestigous club NORTHERN TIGERS. William signed for their reserve squad, but was quickly identified by the first grade coach, and included in many of the first teams outings. This included the highlight of being selected in the starting 11 in an exhibition friendly match verse fully proffessional A-LEAGUE side CENTRAL COAST MARINERS, with the NORTHERN TIGERS first grade squad versing a full strength CENTRAL COAST MARINERS side. Again, William's efforts gained praise from the coaching staff, as he was the only under 20 player to be selected for the squad to verse the A-LEAGUE GRAND FINALISTS, (aged 19) and was rewarded with another year at the ambitous club.
William is currently in the pre season with the club, and will be pushing for a spot in the starting 11 for the first grade of the squad.
William also enjoyed great success at school level football. In year 9, at age 15, he captained the Saint Philips first 11 (the school he attended his entire life) to the semi finals of the Christian Schools State Competition. This was then rewarded with a call up in year 10, for the Combined Independent Schools Squad, which competes at New South Wales All Schools state competition, where they finished 2nd in the state wide competition. He was again selected for the squad in year 12, being named as the squad captain, where they once again had great success finishing 3rd.
William's style of football is one of short sharp passing, where he is able to use his low centre of gravity and ability to read the play extremely well to create triangles throughout the field, passing and moving his way out of tight situations. He focusses on being the link from midfield to defence, regularly picking the ball up from the back 4, whilst also priding himself in his ability to win balls in front of the back 4, and in 1 vs 1 situations.
